Our Challenge
Within Walls involved the complete structural transformation of a 1980s project home — executed almost entirely inside the original envelope.
Our Solution
Within Walls is a transformative renovation of a 1980s project home, redefining the interior through structural reinvention rather than external expansion. Working almost entirely within the original shell, the project introduced a new steel roof structure beneath the existing roof, enabling dramatic new volumes and spatial clarity while preserving the home’s external form.
At the centre of the design is a striking four-way raked ceiling that converges to a single point, supported by a precisely engineered steel framework integrated within the existing structure. Curved walls, custom detailing and a newly inserted stair with a curved steel balustrade soften the previously rigid layout, creating a cohesive interior language that flows throughout the home.
The project required extensive temporary propping, complex structural sequencing and careful rectification of the original 1980s framing to achieve modern tolerances and architectural precision. Within Walls demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and craftsmanship can completely reimagine an existing home from within, delivering a refined and highly contemporary living environment.
